Encouraging Employees to Travel More Sustainably

Traveling has an environmental cost, but businesses can encourage employees to travel more sustainably in these seven ways.

Fly less

Host meetings closer to home and opt for virtual meetings when possible.

Fly smart

Take steps to reduce your emissions when traveling by plane. Choose the most direct route, fly coach, and pack your bags light.

Offset CO2 emissions

Balance out your emissions by purchasing carbon offsets that support energy and forestry projects around the world.

Choose efficient transportation options

Opt for public transportation or carpool as a group. Rent a biodiesel or hybrid-electric car, or a small, fuel-efficient model.

Avoid disposable plastic products

Reduce your consumption, request no straws, bring along a reusable water bottle, and refuse plastic shopping bags.

Choose sustainable hotels

Book hotels with a CSR policy, are implementing environmentally-friendly practices, and are certified for sustainability.

Support local businesses

Dine at restaurants that use local ingredients, experience the local culture, and patronize locally-owned shops.
